No stars shining for Revolution

BY PETER GOBIS of the Sun Chronicle

For the first time, the New England Revolution were not represented at the MLS All-Star match, and veteran midfielder Shalrie Joseph had his string of eight straight all-star appearances snapped since first being heralded on the pitch in 2004.

But the real issue for the Revolution is winning matches through the second half of the MLS season, which unofficially begins with a nationally televised (NBC) match Sunday in Philadelphia against the Union.

The Revolution have taken just 23 points from 20 matches played thus far, the sixth-fewest among the 20-member MLS teams. Their 6-9-5 record places them outside of the playoff picture at this point, trailing first place New York by 15 points.

The trend is all too familiar for New England, which missed out on the playoffs last season.
